A RAT

¡Hola Familia y Amigos! This is a weak group email. Just to preface hahaha So hermana Jones is fire as always and this week we had the opportunity to give two trainings! It was SO BOMB! Having a comp who knows how to bring in the Spirit is the besssstttt. I love her. Earlier this week we were at the church practicing for the ward christmas program we are in charge of and hermana Jones flipped out because she saw a mouse run out from under a door. So we decided we spend our whole dinner trying to catch the mouse. And we did!!!! Hahaha it was the funniest thing ever. We also rescued some dogs that same day so call me the animal whisperer This week was actually SUPER hard but I love being a missionary. We seriously had some of the most spiritual lessons I have ever had in my mission this week so I will have to write about Yafte de Mexico when I have more time. But anyways, the Church is true. I know it with my WHOLE heart. Missions are the coolest. Here are some other things that ha...

feliz diciembre!

¡Hola Familia y Amigos! I think I have reached that point in my mission when pday rolls around and I literally have no idea what to put into my group email.  But I'll think.... This week Hermana Jones, Hermana Skinner, and Hermana Albrecht and I went to the bishop's storehouse. That's always an interesting experience hahaha. But this time we got to explore a little bit. The bishop's storehouse is SO DOPE! I lowkey feel like I'm playing a game of house and just doing everybody's grocery shopping when I'm there. My parents should have just sent me to the bishop's storehouse as a kid....but I love it there. It's such a cool experience being able to help those in need. Hermana Albrecht and I did some wandering around and got to go back into the warehouse. One of the missionaries took us back into this -10 degree freezer and we got to see how things work more behind the scenes. All I have to say is that this really is Jesus Christ's church.  It'...

Can't Stop Won't Stop/ Thanksgiving Dinner with Tongs

Image
¡Hola Familia y Amigos! So three COVID test wasn't enough I guess because tomorrow we are taking the SAME hermanas to go get tested hahahahaha send help I've honestly decided that at this point I would just rather get COVID. I figure if I get it now, then I should be cleared for Christmas. That's probably sort of selfish. A lot of missionaries in the SLCW mission have had COVID. Also sort of cool, lots of missionaries are starting to be sent to their original missions! One of our APs who was serving in Paraguay is going back on December 11. Another sister went to Zimbabwe. Literally so crazy. Thanksgiving was super fun! We were able to spend it with the other missionaries in our district. BYU Catering provided a cute little Thanksgiving dinner which was nice until we realized the church building didn't have any forks. Ya......like what kind of LDS church building doesn't have forks?!?! I'm not lying, there were literally none. There were no spoons either. Sooo...

The Healing Power of Gratitude

Image
¡Hola Familia y Amigos! This week we took an hermana to get tested for COVID. For the third time. Let me clarify a little further hahaha: we took the same hermana to get tested for COVID...3 times. We were laughing in the car on the way to get her tested and we all agreed it would probably just be worth it for her to actually test positive. Especially after having to get tested 3 different times. She'd at least be clear for Christmas 🤷🏼‍♀️ Anyways, I said I'd write a better email... My new companion is hermana Jones. Basically she is this half polynesian goddess who makes me laugh harder than I thought possible. Our first morning together I woke up to go to the bathroom and dropped a whole roll of toilet paper into the toilet andddddd we've bonded ever since! Hahaha  Also! We live with hermana Skinner and Albrecht and it's so fun! Hermana Skinner got dear-Janed last week so send her some love. Except it was actually an answer to my prayers because now we can live toge...

Stress Level Midnight

Image
¡Hola Familia y Amigos! Hahahahaha Sister Shumway is gone and I am stressed. We dropped her off at the mission home today. I'll get my new comp tonight so for now I'm just hanging around other hermanas. Anyways, this week was crazy. But they always are. So I'll start drafting an email explaining everything to send for next week. Love you all. Listen to "The Inconvenient Messiah" by Elder and Sister Holland. It's a BYU Devotional. My favorite. So good. Write me and tell me what you think. Anyways Love love loveeee, Hermana McKinlay 1. Leonel 2. Glitter masks 3. Transfer board meeting!!! 4. President and his dog Scooter haha 5. ROMI 💛

I Hate You Walmart Pickup

Image
¡Hola Familia y Amigos! One of the really fun parts of having the opportunity to be a Sister Training Leader is getting to pick up GROCERIES for all the hermanas we cover! That is NOT sarcasm. One of my favorite things ever is driving around listening to music and so those first few hours of pday are golden. Except for today. Today I have spent 5 hours in the Walmart pickup parking lot. Yes, five. Still here actually. But that's ok. This week was LONG! Oof it was so long. But there's only ONE MORE WEEK LEFT of this transfer! Hermana Shumway literally goes home in a week! She has taught me so much and she will be missed by many many many missionaries here. Including myself :) It snowed this week so that was sort of fun. We are teaching this INCREDIBLE couple that lives in Park City. We're actually teaching them English but the other day they set down a Book of Mormon in front of the camera so we shifted gears a little bit haha. Celia, the wife, is amazing. We invited her t...

I'm Dreaming of a White...Halloween?

Image
¡Hola Familia y Amigos! Yesterday's low was 19 degrees so that meant waking up to snow!...and a lot more than I expected for the first one this season. It's been about 18 months since I've seen snow/had a winter so I'm not quite sure how I'll survive the next 5 months haha Hermana Shumway goes home in 3 weeks! Crazy to think we are already halfway through the transfer. Time is flying. This week we had zone conference and it was probably my favorite one yet. The Spirit was so strong.  This week I was studying in Jacob and came across a verse that really caught my attention. It says, "...trusting in the God and the rock of their salvation; wherefore, they became as yet, conquerors of their enemies." I love that! They became conquerors of their enemies by trusting in God! By letting God prevail! It made me think of our prophet's most recent message from this last general conference when he said, " The Lord is gathering those who are willing to let ...
