¡Hola Amigos y Familia! If you know you know. This week went by reallllllyyyyy slow not going to lie. Patience is a virtue....I lack. I'm working on it.  Last week after p-day I had "divisiones" with a Hermana Cappa! There are two Hermana Cappas and they're over the whole Santiago Centro Zone. Hermana V. and I said goodbye for 24 hours to go on splits with the Hermana Cappas. Tender mercy, I was assigned to a gringa! She's actually going home this week so that kind of stunk (#trunky) BUT she was able to answer a lot (and I had a LOT) of questions. We went and did something called a "Tormenta Blanca" which basically means a group of elders and hermanas go to an area and help out the elders or hermanas assigned to that area. We went to an area in my zone called "Frias" which was a 3 hour bus ride away. SO, we woke up at 3:30am to catch the bus and started working right after we stepped off. Hermana Hemingway and I found a LOT of peopl...

Katie Killed Christmas AND a Cockroach

Image
¡Hola Amigos y Familia! Let me explain. As it is now December, and one of the BEST times of the year, I was asked to start playing Christmas hymns in sacrament meeting. Well, I spent very little time (actually none. I spent no time) practicing this week. I really don't think it could have gone any worse haha. I did not "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" and "Angels We Have Heard on High" the justice they deserve. The walk I made from the piano to the pew after the sacrament hymn was one of great....verguenza. Now onto the other thing I murdered. Everyone who's served in South or Central America has some story about bugs, but it never crossed my mind that I would have one. The other day, I got out of the shower and felt something fall on my foot. I didn't have my contacts in or my glasses on so all I saw was this black blob. But then it MOVED and I REALIZED it was a COCKROACH! Horrible horrible horrible moment. Poor Hermana V. was on the other side of ...

She LIVES!

¡Hello Friends and Family! I am not going to lie when I say that this week was absolutely brutal for me. REALLY understanding the whole "refiner's fire" story now. But another week down so that's good.  I really am trying to do my best to respond to emails! I read EVERY email I receive but am getting a little behind on responding so I apologize. Love you ALL! Thank you for writing and supporting me.  This week was a blur. They all have been. It really is true what they say, "the days feel like weeks but the weeks feel like days." Except this week. This week felt like 15 years ahahahaha.  The ward Hermana V. and I are serving in is pretty messed up. There are a lotttt of problems so I think we're going to try and work a lot through members. Except one of our lunches this week (with members. all our lunches are with members) was four hours and I was starting to get a little drained out to say the least. But I don't know castellano so I ...

Well Well Well, If It Isn't Hermana McKinlay in Flippin Argentina

¡Hola amigos y amigas! Not quite sure how much time I have left here in the internet cafe because my companion speaks no English and I can't remember how much time she said we'd have here. Hahahahaha sos. The past 12 days have been absolutely insane. Here's the rundown. It took me 32 hours to get from Mexico City to Salta. My travel group had a 4 hour layover in Panama City (STUNNING descent. Coolest view from a plane ever). We chilled and ate at the airport. In the food court I noticed a tv that was playing ESPN football highlights so I suggested we sit at a table where I may or may not have just so happened to have perfect sight of the tv. Can't really remember, it's all a blur ;) Layover in Buenos Aires was a complete JOKE! My dad would have given up the ghost. I don't really know what was going on, mostly because I know 2% of Castellano (Argentina spanish), but apparently a lot of pilots were going on strike because the government is lousy or so...

An Email from Really Really Really Far Away

Image
Hi! Dont really have a lot of time and just when I figured out the CCM keyboards I get to Salta and cant figure out the ones here. Good thing I have another 16.5 months ahead of me.  Arrived in Salta. I have absolutely no idea how to speak the language but it sounds really cool when other people speak it. I have yet to meet my companion but have been praying to Heavenly Father that He will give me exactly what I need. I know He will but yikes this is terrifying. Please please please keep me in your prayers.  I have a lot of stuff to fill you in on so hopefully I will be able to call you next week sometime. Here is a link to some photos that were taken when we arrived in the airport Lots of amor, Hermana McKinlay

How to Recognize When the Lord is Speaking to US

Hi you guys!!! I'm still disappointed in the last group email I sent out so I'm going to try and make up for it with this one haha  This is my last week in the Centro de Capacitación Misional México! I received my flight plans to Argentina on Tuesday and am "flipping a bean" over here (to quote Elder Lewis from my district) hahaha. I cannot believe this is real. Most of me is mad hyped for the field. Just get me out there and let to talk to everyone in the gnarliest castellano ever haha. But there is also this tiny (and I mean tiny) part of me that is super terrified. Only because the CCM is sort of like Heaven. Everything is mapped out for you. Meal times, classes, devotionals, etc. So we'll see how this goes haha. Next email from Hermana McKin will be coming from Argentina! Not going to lie, still in shock I'm on a mission. Full send baby! My flight leaves from Mexico City at 1pm and I have a layover in Panama City, which is freaking DOPE. Then off ...
