How to Recognize When the Lord is Speaking to US

Image
Hi you guys!!! I'm still disappointed in the last group email I sent out so I'm going to try and make up for it with this one haha  This is my last week in the Centro de Capacitación Misional México! I received my flight plans to Argentina on Tuesday and am "flipping a bean" over here (to quote Elder Lewis from my district) hahaha. I cannot believe this is real. Most of me is mad hyped for the field. Just get me out there and let to talk to everyone in the gnarliest castellano ever haha. But there is also this tiny (and I mean tiny) part of me that is super terrified. Only because the CCM is sort of like Heaven. Everything is mapped out for you. Meal times, classes, devotionals, etc. So we'll see how this goes haha. Next email from Hermana McKin will be coming from Argentina! Not going to lie, still in shock I'm on a mission. Full send baby! My flight leaves from Mexico City at 1pm and I have a layover in Panama City, which is freaking DOPE. Then off ...

Cubby's Fry Sauce and Rosemary Fries

Mannnnnn I miss those. Pray for me.  This email will be short because I'm trying to type mega emails and make mega calls. But I love you all.  Shoutout to everyone who sent me a conference talk. I loved them and have a few left to read.  Also found out the word hermana doesn't have an ñ so a huge thanks to everyone on this list who speaks fluent spanish and let me sign my last 3 emails as Hermaña McKinlay.  Here is a quote I love: "For of all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these: it might have been!" Also another quote I love that sort of relates: "Full send." Ya really living that right now haha. Here's a cool story: So I don't know exact details but I guess the FBI went to the Provo MTC to try and figure out how so many young missionaries were learning so many different languages so fast. They couldn't figure it out. Lol. Didn't wake up to my alarm the other day but I did wake up to Hermana Steed yellin...

"What are you going to name YOUR parasite?"

Yes, you read that subject line right. It's been a rough week here at the Mexico City CCM this week...if ya know what I mean. An elder in District 12B lost 25 lbs. and discovered he had a tapeworm. Luckily, it's no longer in his body. The news spread fast and everyone has been losing their minds this week. Turns out he ate some weird tacos in the Mexico City airport 3 weeks ago and that's where the worm came from. But everyone is still skeptical about that story because the bathroom lines are longer than usual. Probably shouldn't dive too deep into that story but if you want an idea of what the CCM has been like this week, read Ether 14:18..............yup.........  A week ago I went to the Mexico City temple and did a session! Super cool experience. Stunning temple. The celestial room was gorgeous. I think I'm going to go again next week because I'm not quite sure how I'm going to survive not going to the temple for 17 months. I think I'll...

Tithing Money Twix Bars

Image
so I don't know exactly how, when, or from where but every week I get 120 pesos in put into my MTC bank account. I can use this money to buy stuff at la tienda which is the store here that sells missionary needs like flashcards, pens, garments etc...super great. really the only thing I buy at the store are tidepods so I can do my laundry on pdays. well last week, I found out la tienda carries Twix Bars. It also just so happened last week included some kind of rough moments for me. No need to worry, all is well. Anyways, to sum it up the mexican man who works at la tienda recognizes me every time I walk in because I prefer to stock up on my Twix bars. Functionality. I know tithing money goes to a lot of places, one of which is missionary work, so if I´m thinking through this right...shoutout to whoever in the world paid for my Twix bars this week. you. da. realest.  this week I've been writing down on a piece of paper things I wanted to make sure to include on this email and...

Man I love writing these.  This week was very different than last, but for good reasons. I'm growing.  My district is freaking hilarious. Theres 12 of us and we all grind together. But I have to be real, the Hermanas here are so much better at spanish than the elders. Elders are cooler though so it cancels out. We were able to take our white dots off of our tags on sunday after conference which means we aren't the babies in the mtc anymore. Yesterday new missionaries came to the mtc and i'm not going to lie, my heart ached for them. Some of these elders are seriously so tiny it's the weirdest thing. They look like Michael so i automatically want to hug them all but that goes right against the rules on page 33 in the missionary handbook.  OK THIS MADE MY FREAKING VIDA. Dad you're not going to believe this. Earlier this week we were going over how to pronounce the letters in the alphabet. Easy stuff. When we got to the letter p my teacher LEGIT...

¡ Hola! I have been thinking about what I could type in my first email as a missionary since I was assigned my call and it 's the craziest thing to think I 'm actually sitting down to type it right now!!! Ahhh!!! Before I get into it please forgive me for my lack of punctuation. These keyboards are weird as heck and I 'm getting really tired of having to copy and paste apostrophes.  Also I love you all.  Ok so here 's the rundown  Saying goodbye to my family was hard, but not as hard as I expected. Probably because it was 430am and we were all a little delirious. I passed through security, let out a very small but also VERY audible sob ahaha, and then I was good. It was seriously the weirdest thing feeling so calm sitting outside the gate to my flight. Slept my whole first flight. The guy sitting by the window had to ask me TWICE to get up so he could use the bathroom because I was so tired. He might have even touched my shoulder I cant remember ...
