Spiritual Babysitting

¡Hola Familia y Amigos! This week was good! It's really all a blur but I took more pictures this week (because I guess my camera isn't broken???) so hopefully those will bring some memories and funny stories back to my memory as I type this out. Quick side note before I get into this: my mom is a nurse!!!!!!!!!!!! I love my mom she is my best friend so everyone give her a hug because I can't! Transfer calls are Sunday which means new comp and maybe new area?!?!?! Pretty positive I'm not training this transfer and I'm absolutely HEARTBROKEN when I think about saying goodbye to Hermana Jorton. We have laughed and planned her wedding WAY too much this transfer. I. Love. Her. Evvvveeeeen though she falls asleep in every single one of my prayers. Also she sneezes SO MUCH! I started keeping track of all the sneezes I've heard once we hit week three of the transfer and she's at........drum roll please........185! That's an average of 13.214286 snee...

"Sorry it's raining and everyone wants to worship the DEVIL!"

¡Hola Familia y Amigos! Maggie: “Mom, what would I do with all your clothes if you died?” Me: “Well, maybe you could give them to people who need them.” Maggie: “Yeah but then when you were resurrected you would be like, ‘Hey, where are all my clothes?’ “ So that was a quote my mom sent me this week hahaha. The subject of my email is pretty much this week in a nutshell. Carnaval is kind of putting a fat barrier in the way of everything we want to do.  This week was just more biking (so much so Hermana Horton's bike broke..........again) and a LOT more rain. It's actually a miracle neither of us are sick because we spent a solid majority of this week just walking around drenched. Milagros y bendiciones nada más. Also Hermana Horton eats pancakes for both breakfast AND dinner so that's fun to watch and count haha. Transfers are in two weeks so we'll see what happens! My camera broke so I have no pictures haha. BUTTTTTT I still love you all! Thank ...

"Why Are They All White?"

Image
¡Hola Familia y Amigos! So we had a cita with Exequiel this week to teach him more about prophets, temples, etc. All that good stuff. I pulled out a picture of all the general authorities and Exequiel sat there for a sec before saying, "Why are they all white?" It was pretty funny not going to lie. There's a solid amount of general authorities from South America but they all look white so we tried to explain that.  This week was kind of an odd week. Everyday was super overcast and rainy and Hermana Horton and I just kinda felt weird. At least 3 times once a day we'd look at each other and say something like, "Why is today so weird?" I think we were letting the weather get to us because we actually had a VERY productive week. The Sister Training Leaders came over yesterday to verify our weekly planning and they said they've never seen a companionship work so effectively. They said they could tell we have a love for the people and each other which ...

soooooo CHIEFS WON THE SUPERBOWL!?!?!?!? also kinda robbery numero 2

Image
¡Hola Familia y Amigos! This week was a week of WINS! Except the Superbowl was like 2 weeks ago but I didn't find out until this week so I'm counting it. ALSO! WE HAD A BAPTISM! We had THREE lessons with Exequiel and he told us he was ready to be baptized. He was an "escogido" as we call them here in the mission. He was chosen and prepared WAY before the missionaries found him. I'm just happy I got to watch him take this step in his life. Now he's asking us about temples and the priesthood and all that AMAZING stuff so Hermana McKinlay is crying happy tears.  Had lots of interactions with drunk people this week. Jujuy has this big fiesta called "Carnival" where everyone basically worships the devil and dresses up in freaky looking outfits. I'll attach a photo below. Everyone gets really drunk and parties for about 3 weeks so Hermana Horton and I are going to have to be really careful because things have already started getting a little sk...

"Robbery" Numero Uno, Sleep Talking In Spanish, and TRANSFERS!!!

Image
¡Hola Familia y Amigos! Holy freaking HECK these past two weeks have been inSANE! I don't even know where to begin. Missions are crazy. Two weeks ago, Hermana V. and I were walking around in Santiago contacting. Contacting is where you basically just talk to everyone and introduce yourself as a missionary. I contacted this lady who was selling fruit on the corner of the street and when the conversation started lagging I sort of panicked and was like, "hey can I buy some grapes!?!" Bought some grapes and she committed to come to church so that was that. So there we were, walking around with a bag of grapes, sweating, and looking for more people to contact. We started talking to this guy named Domingo who is super atheist and has no interest in the church yet he always calls us over to talk to him. To make a long story short, he gave us a mango. For those of you that know me well, I love mangos. So that REALLY put a skip in my step. So THEN there we were. Hermana V....

"I'm Sorry Your Granddaughter Hates You. Read the Book of Mormon"

¡Hola Familia y Amigos! I was listening to Hermana Steed make her nightly phone calls to all the members she and her companion have been visiting this past week when I heard her say that sentence. Ahahahaha I don't think I have laughed that hard since being out here in the field. I hope the Spirit carried that to Yolanda's heart in a way that didn't offend her because the way Hermana Steed said it was pretty straight up. I keep telling Hermana Steed ONE day we'll know Spanish and won't have to say things awkwardly but to be totally honest I hope Hermana Steed never learns because she's my comic relief out here.  So this week was a TOTAL bust. All the missionaries that were "born" with me (came to the mish at the same time as me) had to go to Salta to do a ton of paperwork to become legal citizens! Sooooo Hermana Steed, Hermana Rennick, Elder Rodriguez, and I caught an 8 hour bus ride to Salta on Tuesday. We spent the night in Salta and then spe...

"...Hermana, no grite..."

Image
¡Hola Amigos y Familia! Tuesday morning, 2 seconds after turning off my alarm, and that's the first thing I hear from Hermana V. To translate into English: "Sister, don't scream." There was a pretty gnarly looking bug chilling next to me in my sheets. I woke up pretty quick after that.  Zone conference was Tuesday and it was awesome! Mostly because I understood the majority of what was being said. "Majority" = 65ish% but that's progress! President Orquera always feeds us really well except this time no one really ate breakfast because we took the lids off of the factura boxes only to find the bread COVERED in dead bees. That was such a bummer. Hermana V. and I were asked super last minute (welcome to the Argentina Salta mission) to play a music number during the conference. Hermana V. plays the violin so I hopped up onto the piano, said a little prayer, and whipped out "Joseph Smith's First Prayer." It went really well and when we s...
